Life According to Plan?

So, last nights movie was The Adjustment Bureau with Matt Damon. I had no idea what it was about, but I figured I couldn’t go wrong with Matt Damon right? Turns out it’s about an affair between a politician and a ballerina affected by mysterious forces keeping them apart. A romantic tale of “you and me against the world,” and in this case the world is the hands of fate; Destiny. Two lovers apparently not meant to be together, it doesn’t fit the plan. The “hands of fate” in this case is a team of fedora wearing men; the Adjustment Bureau, whose attempts to keep them in line and make sure they stay on their chosen path proves...

The Need for Love

The Need of Love in difficult situations. How does this work? Love should never have to be a choice. But when it comes to difficult situations like the choice between you, your husband or your children what happens then? Well they cannot take care of themselves, they are apart of you and it’s your job to look after them, you have a duty of care of them because they are not adults, you are the one to make empowered decisions and choices on their behalf. What happens when they grow up? How would that leave your relationship with partner? I have had several people recently tell me in their own unique ways that they felt something like a bouncing ball in life. Trying to juggle work, school, health and family responsibilities can be overwhelming, leaving someone to feel out of balance, disconnected and unfocused. This can be slippery slope in any relationship. I think it’s important to take a quick assessment every few months – check in on your priorities and values and what’s important to you right now. Have you...

Playing full out!

This is a video of the great Maya Plisetskaya dancing the dying Swan. She is 61 here. You see her dancing like this at 61 and you think to yourself: “There’s a woman who plays full out! Who is living life to the fullest! Squeezing the juice out of life!” You are probably imagining her activity filled days, her rehearsals and the rigorous training she still has to undergo to keep her body and her skills at a high performance level. This is someone who clearly pushes her own limits! But here are her own words as she describes working for the first time with Roland Petit, on the production of La Rose Malade: Roland himself rehearsed with me, not trusting the coach....

Of Eagles and Mer-people

What do you think of dreams? That they are messages from the unconscious, that they are the result of the mind processing the days events, that they are prophetic or that they have no meaning at all, and are just nonsense? A dream I had two nights in a row this week left me with a feeling of the numinosity of dreams and their meanings, and made me recall another magic dream from years ago. I dreamt that my husband was looking for a house in the city for us to rent. The first one was okay, very ordinary and nothing to rave about. The second house was a huge Victorian terrace, with high ceilings and furnished. The furniture was very large, very expensive and inside the...
